Terrace lighting: enjoying evenings outside
A terrace is only really useful if you can enjoy it after sunset. Well-designed terrace lighting turns a dark, neglected space into a natural extension of the home, where you eat, entertain and linger in the evening.
What sets terrace lighting apart
Unlike a garden, a terrace is a living space where people walk, sit and entertain close to the fittings. The challenge is therefore not just to light it, but to calibrate it: enough light to see without stumbling, but nothing glaring that would ruin the mood of a dinner.
- Ambient lighting, not a floodlight: prefer several soft sources rather than a single powerful light point
- Ground- or wall-level marking to define steps and edges without straining the eyes
- A dedicated source over the dining area, dimmable if possible
- Weather protection, since a terrace remains exposed to rain and moisture all year round
The solutions we install
Recessed spotlights
Set into the floor, a low wall or decking, recessed spotlights illuminate without creating a visual obstacle or a visible cable. Discreet by day, they trace the outline of the terrace once night falls.
Wall lights
Fixed to a wall or a pergola, they cast a soft downward light, ideal near a patio door or an entrance. They come in many styles, from the most discreet to the most decorative.
LED strips and ribbons
Integrated under a coping, along a pergola or a handrail, they create a continuous line of light that is much appreciated for the ambiance it creates. Their low power draw means they can be left on all evening without a second thought.
Outdoor pendants and floor lamps
On a pergola or covered terrace, a weatherproof pendant provides warmer lighting, closer to that of an indoor space.
Technical requirements to respect
- IP rating: IP44 minimum for any fitting exposed to the elements, higher if the terrace is uncovered
- Dedicated circuit: separate supply with circuit breaker and 30 mA RCD
- Suitable cable: H07RN-F laid in ICTA conduit to withstand UV and moisture
- Watertight connection: push-in Wago connectors, never screw-type connectors on an outdoor flexible cable
- Dimming: a dimmer can be fitted to adjust the ambiance depending on the time of evening
An installation tailored to your terrace
We work with you to plan the layout of the light points according to your terrace's design: dining area, circulation, relaxation corner. The wiring is planned from the outset to remain invisible, even if your terrace is already built.
